Zenos Carter was the son of Daniel Bryant Carter and Nancy Parker. Here is what we know. Zenos Carter was born on May 24, 1825 in Cartersville N.C. He married a woman by the name of Hepsibah Jane Cavenaugh in 1849 at the age of 24 in Duplin County N.C. Not a whole lot is know about him. In this photo is Hepsibah and Zenos.

  1. My Great great grandmothers name was Bettie Carter she married Benjamin Franklin Cavenaugh in Duplin County. I can't find any info on her, other than a witness to her marriage was S.J. Carter in 1902. Do you think somehow Bettie Carter was related to Zenos (SJ)?

  2. My Grandfather's DNA came back as a match to Zenos Carter descendants. The interesting thing is that his father, Grant Bennett Smith was adopted and there are no connections we can find to the Carters. What interests me is that your title is SMITH and Carter. He was adopted by Smiths and the Bennett family in the Dakota Territory. The Bennetts were renowned Doctors from NY who had a ton of kids. One of their daughters married William smith and adopted Grant after his birth in Missourri. His older sister Gertie was adopted by some other family.

  3. I was adopted in 1978 in Baltimore, MD. I recently did a DNA test on Ancestry.com. I'm related to Hepsibah and Zenos. I have many Smiths in 3rd cousin matches. I have a feeling my mother was on this side, and my father was from the surnames Wright or Kenney. My foster mother told me when I was young that my mother was from Florida, and went to Maryland to stay with relatives to have me when she was 17. Hello to anyone reading this who is a Smith or Carter! We are cousins! :)
